Frequently asked questions
What is Epsom leather?
Epsom is a calfskin where the grain pattern is stamped (embossed) into the surface during finishing. The result is a fine, uniform pebble texture that's lightweight, holds color brilliantly, and resists scratches. Hermès uses Epsom on many of their iconic bags.
Why is Epsom popular for watch straps?
Three reasons: the embossed grain hides minor wear (no obvious scratches over time), the leather holds dye saturation that natural-grain leathers can't match (which is why Epsom pieces come in vivid blues, oranges, reds), and the lightweight feel sits comfortably on the wrist.
Does Epsom scratch easily?
No — Epsom's embossed grain is one of the most scratch-resistant leather finishes for daily wear. Light scuffs blend into the texture rather than showing as marks. For deeper scratches, the leather can usually be massaged back into the grain pattern.
How do I care for an Epsom leather strap?
Wipe with a dry or barely-damp soft cloth after wear. Avoid prolonged water exposure and harsh cleaners. Epsom is one of the lower-maintenance leathers we offer; light conditioning once or twice a year is fine but rarely necessary.
What lug widths and strap lengths are available?
Any lug width from 8mm to 30mm in 1mm increments, and lengths from short (5.0" wrist) through extra-long (12" wrist). Use the Lug Width Finder if you don't know your watch's lug width, and the Bespoke Fit Calculator to dial in length.
