Shell Cordovan Strap for a Cartier Tank Américaine

The 16 mm figure is the buckle width. It is not the lug width, and the order did not state one, so we are not publishing a number for it.
Why these choices
Flat padding and minimal stitching are not styling calls here, they are clearance calls. A padded strap under a folding clasp stacks height on the underside of the wrist, and a heavy stitch line adds a seam exactly where the clasp plate closes. Taking both down keeps the deployant sitting where it should. The matching stitch color finishes the job by keeping the eye on the leather rather than on a contrast line running the length of a dress strap.
Shell cordovan is the right hide for that flat build. It is an equine leather, tanned by Shinki Hikaku in Himeji, Japan, and it is denser than cowhide and almost non-creasing. A leather that does not crease is worth a great deal on a strap with no padding to hide behind, because the surface is doing all the work. The teal blue reads close to black in low light and shows its color in daylight, which suits a rectangular dress case.
