Racing Strap for a Seiko SSC937 in Buttero Leather
Share
A chronograph asks for a different strap than a three-hander does. The pushers put the watch in a category with a motorsport history, and the strap style that came out of that history is the racing strap: perforations through the leather and a contrast stitch running the length. This order was a racing strap for a Seiko SSC937 in dark brown Buttero with orange stitching.
Orange on dark brown is a deliberate call rather than a safe one, and it is the kind of thing worth getting right at the order stage instead of settling for matching thread.

Why these choices
A racing strap is defined by two things: racing-inspired perforations and contrast stitching. Both are cuts and stitches into the same strap body, so the leather underneath has to be firm enough to take holes without the edges going soft around them. That is where the leather choice stops being cosmetic.
Buttero is a vegetable-tanned leather from Walpier in Tuscany. It is dense, which is exactly what perforations need, and it patinas with wear, so a dark brown strap gets darker and glossier at the flex points over a year rather than looking tired. On a solar chronograph that gets daily use, that is the more interesting outcome than a leather that stays exactly as it left the bench.
Orange side stitching against dark brown is a warm contrast rather than a hard one, so the strap reads as sporting without turning into a costume. Padding was specified, which suits a chronograph case with some weight to it, and the tapered tip keeps the buckle end from looking slab-sided against an 18 mm buckle.
Length went out at 85/135 mm, a step above the standard split, so the tail sits properly on a wrist at the larger end of average.
Questions we get
Can I get a racing strap for a Seiko SSC937 in another leather?
Yes. The perforations and the contrast stitch are the style, not the hide. Buttero suits it because it is firm, but the same build can be cut in other leathers if you have a color in mind we do not carry in Buttero.
Do the perforations go all the way through?
They do, and that is what gives the style its look on the wrist. It also means the hide has to be dense enough that the holes stay crisp instead of stretching, which is the reason we are particular about which leathers we offer this style in.
If you have a chronograph that deserves better than its stock band, start with the dark brown Buttero strap and add the racing style.
