Racing Shark Skin Strap for a Movado Kingmatic
Share
A vintage Movado Kingmatic Chronograph is a motorsport-era watch, and putting it back on a plain dress strap undersells it. This order from Florida leaned the other way: a racing strap for the Movado Kingmatic in black shark skin, with racing perforations, red contrast stitching, and a stainless deployant.
The build
| Leather | Black shark skin |
| Style | Racing — perforated |
| Strap length | 85/135mm (3.3 in / 5.3 in) |
| Buckle width | 18mm |
| Buckle | Deployant — Stainless steel |
| Spring bars | Quick release |
| Stitching | Red side stitching |
| Profile | Padded, tapered tip |
18mm is the buckle-end width from the order. The lug-end width is cut to the watch and is not listed here.
Why these choices

The racing style is the right visual language for a chronograph: racing-inspired perforations down the strap body and contrast stitching — here in red — that echoes the instrument-panel look these watches were designed around. On a black strap the red thread does the work of a colored dial accent without touching the watch itself.
Shark skin is the sleeper pick of the build. It is among the toughest exotic leathers VGreen cuts, with a dense, tooth-textured grain that shrugs off the wear a daily chronograph collects. A perforated racing strap gets handled and flexed constantly; shark holds its structure where softer hides would slacken.
The customer finished it with a stainless deployant and quick-release bars — a practical combination on a vintage case, since the strap goes on and off without a springbar tool ever working near sixty-year-old lugs. The 85/135mm cut is one step over standard for a touch more reach.

★★★★★
“Black Epsom leather racing style band with yellow stitching. I think it is the perfect match for this gold plated Heuer Carrera 45 from 1964 (ref. 3648N).”

Common questions
Does a racing strap for the Movado Kingmatic suit the original look?
Yes — the Kingmatic chronographs came out of the same era that produced perforated rally straps, so the pairing is period-correct rather than a modern costume. Choose stitch color to pick up a dial or hand accent.
Is shark skin comfortable?
It breaks in like other exotics while staying tougher than calf. This build added padding and a tapered tip, which keeps the strong texture comfortable at the buckle end.
