Brown crocodile watch strap for Baume & Mercier Clifton, extra-long 105/160mm

Extra-Long Crocodile Strap for Baume & Mercier Clifton

The Baume & Mercier Clifton ships on a strap sized for an average wrist, and on a large wrist that leaves too few holes to reach the buckle. This brown crocodile strap was built extra-long at 105/160mm, about 70mm (2.75 in) more total length than our standard 75/115mm, so the Clifton closes comfortably instead of on its last hole.

Why these choices

Lengthening both sides, not just the tail. A common shortcut for large wrists is to add length only to the holed side. That works up to a point, then the buckle starts sitting off to the side of the wrist and the case drifts off center. Here both sides grew: the buckle side went from 75mm to 105mm and the holed side from 115mm to 160mm. Total length is 265mm (10.4 in), which keeps the buckle under the wrist and leaves enough tail for the keepers. Most makers stop around an 8.5 in wrist; our extra-long watch straps cover wrists from 8.5 in to 12 in.

Buckle sized to the strap's end. The order selected a 20mm buckle but asked us to use the buckle closest to 19.05mm, which is 3/4 in. That suggests the strap's buckle end is an imperial measurement rather than a round metric number, so the build follows the note rather than forcing a stock size. A buckle that is too wide for the strap end shifts side to side; one that is too narrow pinches the leather. A classic stainless steel buckle suits the Clifton's steel case, and regular spring bars mean the strap is fitted with a spring bar tool.

Brown crocodile for a dress watch. The Clifton is a dress watch, and brown crocodile is the traditional pairing. Crocodile and alligator are industry synonyms for the same hide family; it softens with wear and builds a hand-rubbed patina. On an extra-long strap there is more hide on show, so the scale pattern carries further around the wrist than it does on a standard length.

“Your platform offered the extended sizes in multiple offerings: a unique service that allowed me to size up and properly fit to the small case on the Baume & Mercier Hampton XL. Perfect fit with just enough extra band for the keepers using a butterfly clasp.”

FAQ

Can I get an extra-long crocodile strap for the Baume & Mercier Clifton?

Yes. An extra-long crocodile strap for the Baume & Mercier Clifton is built to the two lengths you give us. This one is 105/160mm; measure your wrist and tell us how you like the fit, and we will size both sides from there.

How do I know which buckle width to order?

Measure the buckle end of your current strap, not the lug end. If it is an imperial size like 3/4 in (19.05mm), say so in the notes, as this order did, and we will match the closest buckle.
