Extra-Long Shell Cordovan Strap for Sea-Gull Ocean 1047
Share
The Sea-Gull Ocean Series 1047 is a 44mm, 200m automatic diver, and like most divers it ships on a strap cut for an average wrist. This order came from a customer in New Zealand who needed far more length than a stock strap offers, and who wanted shell cordovan rather than rubber. So we built an extra-long black shell cordovan strap at 115/170mm.
The build

Why these choices
Length first. A standard strap runs around 75/115mm or 75/125mm. At 115/170mm, this one adds roughly 40mm (1.6 in) on the buckle side and 45-55mm (1.8-2.2 in) on the tail side. That puts it in the range we build for wrists from about 8.5 in up to 12 in, which is where most strap makers stop offering anything at all. Both halves are lengthened rather than just the tail, so the buckle still lands on the underside of the wrist instead of drifting toward one side, and the holes stay where they are actually needed.
Shell cordovan on a diver. Shell cordovan is equine leather from Shinki Hikaku in Himeji, Japan. It is denser than cowhide and almost non-creasing, which matters more on a long strap than a short one: there is simply more leather wrapping around the wrist, and cordovan keeps a clean line instead of folding into creases at every hole. Black keeps it quiet enough to sit next to a ceramic dive bezel without competing with the dial.
Heavy buckle in black. A 44mm case with a long strap needs hardware that matches its visual weight. The heavy buckle at 20mm is chunkier than our classic buckle, and the black finish ties it to the strap rather than adding a bright steel accent at the clasp.

FAQ
Can I get an extra-long shell cordovan strap for the Sea-Gull Ocean Series?
Yes. Every strap is made to order, so you choose the length for each half along with the buckle width. Measure your wrist and we will suggest a length; for reference, this 115/170mm build suits a very large wrist. See the extra-long watch straps collection for the options.
Is shell cordovan a good choice for a dive watch?
For desk-diving and everyday wear, yes. It is dense and holds its shape. For actual swimming, use a rubber strap; no leather strap is meant to be soaked.
If your watch is fine but the strap never fits your wrist, start with the black shell cordovan strap or browse all shell cordovan leather options. Made to order, allow 2-3 weeks to delivery.
