Why these choices

The buckle decision drove the rest of the build. Reusing the watch's original deployant or pin buckle is the single most effective way to keep a replacement strap looking like it belongs to the watch, because the buckle is the part a stranger actually reads as branded. It also changes how the strap has to be cut: the tail is sized to the existing hardware rather than to something supplied with it, so the 18mm figure here is the buckle width, not the lug width.

Padding was specified, and on this watch it is the right call. A padded strap builds thickness at the lug end and tapers away toward the tail, which fills the gap under a case with some depth to it and stops the leather from looking undernourished where it meets the lugs. The factory straps on watches at this level are almost always padded, so a flat replacement reads as a downgrade even when the leather is better.

Dark green crocodile is the part that makes it a replacement rather than a reproduction. Green sits close enough to black at a glance to stay formal, and crocodile softens with wear and takes a hand-rubbed patina, so it settles in rather than staying stiff. Matching side stitching keeps the seam quiet and lets the tile pattern carry the strap on its own.
