Corner-Notched Strap for a 1927 Hamilton Barrel
A 1927 Hamilton does not take a modern strap. On cases from that decade the lug area is shaped into the case itself, so a straight strap end either will not enter the gap or leaves daylight on both sides of it once it does. Why these choices
The three figures are cut as given. We do not round them and we do not reinterpret them, which is why the form asks for a jeweler’s measurement whenever the case is old enough that its original bracelet is long gone. On a watch from 1927 there is nothing left to compare against — the reference photos are gone, the case has usually been polished at least once, and the only reliable source of dimensions is the watch sitting in front of you. That is also the reason a notched strap is quoted from measurements rather than from a model name.
Light brown ostrich leg is the scaled leather from the bird’s leg, not the round skin from the body, and it carries the natural grain of the scaled hide. It reads as textured rather than smooth, which sits better against a case that has a century of wear on it than a flat, uniform calf would. The color was chosen light rather than dark, so the strap carries some of the warmth of a gold-toned vintage case instead of fighting it. Other ostrich leather straps are available in the same cut.
The length was left at 75/125 mm. Everything unusual about this strap is at the case end; the rest of it is a normal dress strap, and there was no reason to change that.

Will a corner-notched strap for a 1927 Hamilton fit any barrel case from that era?
No. Barrel and tonneau cases from the 1920s were made in dozens of shapes, and the notch has to match the one on your watch rather than the decade it came from. The figures on the order form are what the strap is cut to, so they have to come off your own case. A jeweler can take them in a few minutes if you would rather not measure yourself.
Is this the same as a center-notched strap?
No. Corner-notched straps take the relief out at the corners of the strap end — the pattern a Cartier Santos uses — and are ordered as A, B and C. Center-notched straps carry the notch in the middle and are ordered as X, Y and Z. Vintage cases go both ways, which is why we ask you to measure rather than choosing for you.
