Light brown ostrich leg corner-notched watch strap for a Cartier case

Corner-Notched Ostrich Leg Strap for a Cartier

Some Cartier cases will not take a straight strap. The lugs sit so the strap has to be notched — cut with a stepped end that drops into the case opening — or it simply won't seat. This order is a corner-notched ostrich leg strap for a Cartier, measured to the case so the leather meets the lugs with no gap.

It went to an owner in Nevada whose Cartier needed a notched end. We cut it in light brown ostrich leg to A20/B10/C4mm.

Strap specifications

Leather Light brown ostrich leg
Notch style Corner-notched (Cartier Santos pattern)
Notch measurements A 20mm / B 10mm / C 4mm
Length 75/125mm (about 2.95 in / 4.9 in)

Why these choices

A corner-notched strap uses three measurements: A is the full width at the case, B is the depth of the notch, and C is the width of the tongue that drops between the lugs. Get them wrong and the strap either rattles or won't seat. We cut to the numbers on this order — A20/B10/C4mm — and we always recommend a jeweler measure the case if you are not sure, because the notch cannot be recut narrower after the fact.

Ostrich leg has a natural scaled grain that runs the length of the strap, a different look from the round-skin ostrich most people picture. It reads as textured but still dressy, which suits a Cartier. Light brown keeps it warm against gold or steel.

The corner-notch is the same pattern a Cartier Santos needs, so this build covers a range of Cartier cases standard bands cannot. You can see more in our custom notched straps and Cartier straps.

★★★★★

“Tailored perfectly to my needs. I had a 14mm lug width but wanted to have a 16mm strap width. They notched my strap perfectly to fit the larger strap. Can't recommend them enough.”

Questions about a notched Cartier strap

How do I measure for a corner-notched strap for a Cartier?
You need three numbers — A (full width at the case), B (notch depth), and C (tongue width). A jeweler can read them in a minute, or send us clear photos with a ruler and we'll confirm before cutting.

Can the notch be adjusted after it's cut?
It can be made deeper but not narrower, so we cut conservatively to your measurements. That is why accurate numbers up front matter.

Have a Cartier or other integrated case that won't take a normal band? Start a corner-notched strap and send your measurements.
