Swift Leather Strap for the Panerai PAM00657
Share
Panerai straps have a house style: thick, square-tipped, heavy buckle, contrast stitching. The problem is that the factory versions come in a narrow set of leathers. This order from the Netherlands kept the proportions and changed the material — brown Swift calfskin at 85/135 mm, square tip, creamy white box stitching.

Why these choices

The square tip and the box stitching are what make a strap read as a Panerai strap rather than a dress strap that happens to be wide. A tapered tip on a case this size looks like the strap is shrinking away from the watch; a square end keeps the visual width all the way to the buckle. Box stitching — a rectangle worked at each end rather than a line down both edges — is the other half of that language, and creamy white against brown is the contrast the style is built around.
Swift is the departure. It is a smooth calf with deep colour and a softer hand than Epsom, so it breaks in faster than the stiff leathers usually cut for these watches and takes the curve of a large case sooner. With padding underneath, it fills the gap between a thick case and the wrist without the board-like first month.
The 22 mm figure is the buckle end, not the lug width, and 85/135 mm is a long strap because these cases are wide before the leather even starts. Both numbers were specified by the customer rather than chosen from a size chart, which is the point — on a watch with this much case, a strap sized by category rather than by measurement is the usual reason a replacement disappoints.

Questions we get on this build
Can you make a Swift leather strap for a Panerai PAM00657 in the factory proportions?
Yes. Choose the square tip, box stitching and a heavy buckle and the strap carries the same visual weight as the original — the leather and colour are then open. Send your lug width and wrist size and we cut to those.
Do I need padding on a case this large?
Most owners of 44 mm cases do. Padding lifts the strap to meet a thick case so the leather does not dive away at the lugs. If you prefer a flatter profile, say so and we build it flat instead.
