Maya Leather Watch Straps

Collection: Maya Leather Watch Straps

Genuine Maya leather — Italian vegetable-tanned cowhide, dyed through and buffed to a matte finish with characterful color variations, hand-cut to your watch's lug width and your wrist's length. Made to order in 3-5 days, shipped from our workshop. Trusted by 1,900+ watch enthusiasts (4.7-star average across 1,970 reviews).

Maya is one of the more distinctive Italian veg-tans we work with — dyed through (color runs through the entire hide, not just the surface) and finished with a buffed treatment that creates subtle color variations across each strap. Unlike Buttero, Barenia, or Vachetta, Maya is intentionally low-patina: the color and surface you receive is largely the color and surface you'll keep over years of wear. We cut Maya straps in any lug width from 8mm through 30mm, in lengths from short (5.0" wrist) through extra-long (12" wrist). Available colors run vibrant — Whisky, Salvia, T Moro, Dark Green, Turquoise — making Maya a strong choice when you want the strap to be a color statement, not a backdrop. Pairs especially well with modern minimalist dress watches (Nomos Tangente, Junghans Max Bill, Cartier Tank) and color-friendly casual pieces (Tudor 1926, Longines Heritage, vintage Seiko).

Use our Bespoke Fit Calculator to convert your wrist size and lug-to-lug width into the exact strap length we'll cut for you.

Not sure of your watch's lug width? Our Lug Width Finder takes brand and model and returns the right measurement, then sends you to a strap pre-set to that size.

Frequently asked questions

What is Maya leather?

Maya is an Italian vegetable-tanned cowhide. It's dyed through (color goes all the way through the hide, not just at the surface) and finished with a buffed matte treatment that creates subtle color variations across each strap. The dye-through process is why Maya straps don't show wear-through marks the way surface-dyed leathers do.

Does Maya leather develop a patina?

Less than most veg-tans we offer. Maya is intentionally low-patina — the buffed finish locks in the color and surface character, so the strap looks largely the same in two years as the day it shipped. If you want a leather that visibly ages, choose Buttero, Barenia, or Vachetta. If you want a strap that holds its color and texture consistently, Maya is built for that.

What watches pair best with Maya?

Modern dress watches and color-friendly casual pieces where the strap is a deliberate color statement. Nomos Tangente, Junghans Max Bill, Cartier Tank for dress; Tudor 1926, Longines Heritage, vintage Seiko for casual. The available colors (Whisky, Salvia, T Moro, Dark Green, Turquoise) lean vibrant — Maya is the choice when the strap should add visual character to the watch, not blend in.

How is Maya different from other Italian veg-tans like Buttero or Barenia?

Two main differences. First, finish: Maya is dyed through and buffed to a matte color-rich surface; Buttero and Barenia have smoother, slightly oilier finishes. Second, aging: Maya is low-patina by design (color and surface stay close to original); Buttero and Barenia develop dramatic patinas over time. Pick Maya for color and consistency, Buttero/Barenia for character that develops with wear.

What lug widths and strap lengths are available?

Any lug width from 8mm to 30mm in 1mm increments, and lengths from short (5.0" wrist) through extra-long (12" wrist). Use the Lug Width Finder if you don't know your watch's lug width, and the Bespoke Fit Calculator to dial in length.
