Open-Ended Strap for a Vintage Omega RAF

Vintage military watches often have fixed bars welded into the lugs, so a standard strap cannot thread through; the strap has to be open-ended to feed under the bar. This build is an open-ended black Alran strap for a vintage Omega RAF, cut extra-long at 115/170 mm. The brief was a strap that fits the fixed bars and a larger wrist.

Why these choices

An open-ended strap is finished without a closed loop at the lug end so it can slide under a fixed spring bar, which is the only way to fit a watch like an RAF-issue Omega without cutting the bars. We built it open-ended to feed under the original bars.

At 115/170 mm this is an extra-long cut, well past a standard strap, so it suits a larger wrist on a watch that was issued to be worn over kit. Black Alran keeps the military look plain and serviceable.

A classic black buckle matches the understated case, and regular spring bars hold the buckle end.
