Maya is an Italian vegetable-tanned leather, dyed all the way through and finished matte, with deliberate color variation across the hide. In whisky — a warm mid-brown — it reads relaxed rather than formal, which suits the Clifton's clean, round dress case without pushing it black-tie. Because it's dyed through and veg-tanned, it darkens and softens with wear instead of flaking, so it earns a patina over time.

The measurements did the real work. The Clifton's 21 mm lug is the kind of width that sends owners hunting, because most makers jump straight from 20 to 22 mm. Cutting the strap to a true 21 mm at the lugs means it sits flush with no overhang or pinch, and the taper down to 18 mm keeps the profile balanced under a dress case. This one shipped without a VGreen buckle: the owner wanted to reuse their own 18 mm hardware, so the buckle end was finished to 18 mm to take it.
