Why these choices
Extra-long on our configurator means a wrist between 8.5 and 12 inches — the range where most strap makers simply stop. At 90/145mm this build gives 235mm of total strap, which puts the buckle in the middle of the adjustment range rather than at the very end of it. That matters more than it sounds: a strap worn on its last hole pulls the lug adapters out of square and wears the leather through at one point.
Barenia is the right hide for a watch worn every day and slept in. It is hot-stuffed with grease during tanning, traditionally water-resistant, and it comes from equestrian saddlery where leather is expected to take sweat and rain without complaint. An Apple Watch lives on the wrist through workouts and washing up, and Barenia handles that better than a dressier smooth calf would.
Flat padding and a tapered tip keep the bulk down. A padded strap on an Apple Watch case fights the flat back of the device and lifts the sensor off the skin, which is the last thing you want on a watch that is measuring your pulse.
