Center-Notched Strap for Steinhausen SH00999
Share
The Steinhausen SH00999 is one of those cases a standard band will not go near. The lugs are set into the case rather than standing proud of it, so a straight-cut strap either fouls the case sides or leaves a gap you can see across the room. A center-notched strap solves it by cutting a tongue into the strap end that drops into the recess.

Why these choices
Notched straps are the part of this workshop that cannot be guessed at. The three figures the configurator asks for, X, Y and Z, are what the notch is cut from, and every one of them is taken off the watch rather than off a model number. On this build they came in at 20mm, 7mm and 5mm. Half a millimeter out on any of the three and the tongue either binds against the case or rattles in the recess, which is why we ask for jeweler-measured figures wherever you can get them.
Center-notched is the pattern where the tongue sits in the middle of the strap end, as opposed to the corner-notched pattern used on cases like the Cartier Santos where the cut is taken from the outside edges. Which one your watch needs is a question about the case, not about taste, and getting it backwards produces a strap that fits nothing. If you are unsure, photograph the watch from directly underneath with the bracelet off.
The 70/115mm length is short by our usual standards and was ordered that way. On a notched build the length matters more than it does on a plain strap, because the notch fixes where the strap starts and there is no slack to redistribute afterwards. Crocodile softens with wear and takes a hand-rubbed patina, which suits a moon phase dial better than a stiff finish would.

Two questions we get
Can you make a center-notched strap for a Steinhausen SH00999?
Yes. Send the X, Y and Z measurements from your own watch and we cut to them. This build used 20mm, 7mm and 5mm at a 70/115mm length, but figures vary between references, so measure rather than copy.
What if my measurements are slightly off?
Tell us before we cut. We would rather answer a question about a tenth of a millimeter than build twice, and a photograph of the watch against a ruler settles most of it in one message.
Cases that no standard band fits are the reason this part of the catalog exists. Start with the custom notched straps, look through the crocodile leather watch straps, or open the center-notched strap this one was built from. Made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks to delivery.
