Center-Notched Strap for Gerald Genta Success Calendar
Share
A Gerald Genta Success Calendar that needs a leather strap is not a job for an off-the-shelf band. This order, shipped to New York, called for a center-notched strap: the strap end cut to the full width of the case fitting, with a small notch taken out of the middle so the strap can seat where a straight end would hit the case.
Below are the exact measurements we cut to, the leather the customer chose, and why a notch this small still decides whether the strap fits at all.
The build

Why these choices

On a center-notched strap, three numbers do all the work. X is the full width of the strap end, Y is the width of the piece cut out of the middle, and Z is how far back that cut goes. Here the end is 18mm (0.71") wide, the notch is only 3mm (0.12") wide, and it runs 4mm (0.16") deep. That leaves two 7.5mm tabs either side of the cut. A notch that narrow is easy to underestimate, but if it is even a millimeter off, the strap either won't drop into place or leaves a visible gap against the case. That is why we cut to the customer's measurements rather than to a model name, and why we recommend having a jeweler measure an unusual case before ordering.
The customer picked light brown ostrich leg. Ostrich leg comes from the scaled lower leg of the bird, so its surface is a pattern of overlapping scales rather than the quill bumps people associate with ostrich body leather. It gives a dress watch like the Success Calendar an exotic texture without the formality of crocodile. Length was set at 75mm (2.95") on the buckle side and 125mm (4.92") on the tail side, one of our standard length pairings.
If you are replacing a strap on a case like this, the notch, not the leather, is the part to get right first. Once the X, Y and Z numbers are confirmed, the leather choice is open.

★★★★★
“The Oris TT3 strap is different from most OEM straps because of the lug placement. The OEM strap was too long to fit my wrist well. The new strap (specifically made for these lugs) fits great and fits my wrist perfectly.”

FAQ
What measurements do I need for a center-notched strap for Gerald Genta Success Calendar?
Measure three things at the case: the full width where the strap end sits (X), the width of whatever protrudes into the middle (Y), and how deep that part reaches (Z). Give all three in millimeters. Widths vary between references and case sizes, so measure your own watch instead of copying the numbers above.
Can I choose a different leather for a notched strap?
Yes. The notch is cut to your measurements, so any leather we offer can be made in a center-notched or corner-notched style, from exotics like our ostrich leather straps to Italian veg-tan calf.
To order one for your own watch, start with the custom center-notched strap and add your X, Y and Z measurements, or browse all custom leather watch straps. Each strap is made to order; allow 2–3 weeks to delivery.
