Extra-Long Strap for a Ladies Movado Museum

This is the combination the strap industry has no answer for: a small dress watch and a large wrist. A ladies Movado Museum takes narrow hardware — this one finishes at a 10mm buckle — while the owner, in South Carolina, measures nine and a half inches. Off the shelf, a strap narrow enough for the case is never long enough for the wrist, and a strap long enough for the wrist is cut for a 20mm sports watch. So it was built at 105/160mm.

Why these choices

Most makers stop at 8.5 inches. We build to 12, and the reason this order needed the full range is that 265mm of strap has to wrap a wrist and still leave a tail that tucks. Set the holes by a standard pattern and the buckle ends up sitting on the side of the wrist rather than underneath it. On an extra-long build the hole spacing is drawn for the wrist measurement given, which is why we ask for it rather than inferring it from the length.

Epsom was the right leather at this width. It is a stamped-grain calfskin — the same material Hermès uses for bags — light and scratch-resistant, and it holds a clean edge. That matters more than usual on a 10mm strap: at that width there is almost no leather either side of the stitch line, so a hide that frays or rolls at the edge has nowhere to hide. Epsom stays crisp along the whole 160mm run.

The gold classic buckle follows the watch rather than the strap. A Museum case is a minimal object, and the strap's job is to disappear into it — black leather, gold hardware, no contrast stitching, no padding to add height. Regular spring bars were specified rather than quick release, which suits a watch that stays on one strap.
