Frequently asked questions
What is goat leather?
Goat leather is tanned hide from goats, which has a naturally finer pebble grain than cowhide and a more supple hand. It's a thinner, lighter leather that's been used for fine bookbinding, dress gloves, and watch straps for centuries.
How does goat compare to cowhide?
Goat is finer-grained, lighter, and softer out of the box. The trade-off: it's thinner so less suited to heavy tool watches, and it doesn't develop the dramatic patina that veg-tanned cowhides like Buttero or Barenia do. Goat is the choice when comfort and refinement matter more than aging character.
What watches pair best with goat leather?
Smaller-cased dress and field watches under 40mm. Hamilton Khaki Field, Nomos Tangente, Junghans Max Bill, vintage Seikos (5KX, Cocktail Time), Longines Heritage. Goat's lightweight feel suits watches you wear all day without thinking about the strap.
How do I care for a goat leather strap?
Wipe with a dry or barely-damp soft cloth after wear. Avoid prolonged water exposure and harsh cleaners. Goat is more flexible than cowhide so it sits comfortably from day one — minimal break-in needed. Light conditioning once a year is plenty.
What lug widths and strap lengths are available?
Any lug width from 8mm to 30mm in 1mm increments, and lengths from short (5.0" wrist) through extra-long (12" wrist). Use the Lug Width Finder if you don't know your watch's lug width, and the Bespoke Fit Calculator to dial in length.
