Frequently asked questions
What is Badalassi Wax leather?
Badalassi Wax is an Italian vegetable-tanned cowhide finished with a hand-applied wax topcoat. Conceria Badalassi Carlo (Tuscany) is the original tannery; the leather is part of the broader Tuscan veg-tan tradition that includes Buttero and Minerva.
What's the pull-up effect?
When you bend or stretch wax-finished leather, the wax in the surface temporarily separates and the leather lightens where the bend happens. This creates a 3D, hand-rubbed look that develops naturally over time as the strap is worn. It's the reason Badalassi Wax has the distinctive vintage character watch enthusiasts seek.
Does Badalassi Wax develop a patina?
Yes — among the most visually dramatic. The wax finish responds to UV, oils from your skin, and daily handling, so the strap deepens in color, brings out the leather's natural grain, and develops the pull-up sheen pattern unique to how you wear it.
How do I care for a Badalassi Wax leather strap?
Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wear. Light buffing with a soft cloth can revive the wax sheen if it dulls. Avoid prolonged water exposure (water can spot wax-finish leather). Conditioner is rarely needed and in fact can disrupt the wax finish.
What lug widths and strap lengths are available?
Any lug width from 8mm to 30mm in 1mm increments, and lengths from short (5.0" wrist) through extra-long (12" wrist). Use the Lug Width Finder if you don't know your watch's lug width, and the Bespoke Fit Calculator to dial in length.
