Black ostrich leg watch strap for Omega De Ville Trésor, 20 mm tapering to 16 mm

Ostrich Leg Strap for Omega De Ville Trésor

The De Ville Trésor is a thin dress watch, and a strap that adds bulk under the case works against the reason to own one. This order came in from Ontario with three requirements stacked together: a 20 mm lug end tapering to 16 mm at the buckle, a finished thickness of roughly 2.5 mm or less, and a buckle end cut to take the owner's original Omega tang buckle rather than one of ours. Black ostrich leg was the leather chosen to carry all three.

Why these choices

Black ostrich leg watch strap for Omega De Ville Tresor, tonal black stitching

Ostrich leg is the scaled part of the hide, not the round body skin most people picture when they hear ostrich. Its grain reads as fine overlapping scales that run along the length of the strap, so the texture shows up close and reads as plain black at arm's length. That is a useful property on a dress watch: the strap has something to look at without announcing itself across a table.

The width is the part most standard straps get wrong here. A 20 mm lug end that narrows to 16 mm at the buckle is a taper you have to cut, not a size you can pick off a shelf, and the buckle width follows the taper rather than the lug. Holding the finished thickness to about 2.5 mm matters just as much. A thin case sits low, and a thick strap lifts it off the wrist and makes the watch look taller than it is.

The last constraint was the buckle. This owner wanted to keep the Omega tang buckle the watch came with, which uses a rectangular tongue slot rather than the round pin holes a generic strap is punched for. The buckle end was cut to that slot shape so the original hardware carries over. At the other end, quick release spring bars mean the strap comes off without a tool when the watch goes back on its bracelet.

★★★★★

“This is a gorgeous strap. As good or better than originals costing four times the price. Custom sizing fits difficult lug/buckle width combo like my Omega. I won’t hesitate to order again.”

Questions about this build

Can you make an ostrich leg strap for an Omega De Ville Trésor that keeps the original buckle?
Yes. Tell us the buckle width and the tongue shape and we cut the buckle end for it, so your Omega hardware stays on the watch. Every strap is made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks to delivery.

How is ostrich leg different from ostrich body leather?
They come off different parts of the same hide. Body ostrich carries the raised quill bumps left by feather follicles. Ostrich leg is the scaled leg section, so it has a natural grain of small scales instead of bumps and a flatter surface overall.

Tapers, thickness limits and buckle cuts are all specified at order time, so a strap like this starts on the black ostrich leg strap page and gets measured to your watch from there.
