Lizard Strap for Vintage Rolex 1501
Share
The Rolex 1501 is the vintage Oyster Perpetual Date in its 34mm steel form, and its original leather straps disappeared decades ago. That is the problem this build solves: a dark brown lizard strap cut to the watch's actual lugs and a 6.5-inch wrist, so a watch that no longer has a factory strap gets one made to measure.

Why these choices
Lizard is the dressiest of the exotic leathers. Its scales are small and tight, which keeps the pattern in scale with a smaller vintage dial rather than overpowering it, and dark brown is the natural partner for the warm tone of a 34mm steel Rolex from this era. A lizard watch strap gives the 1501 a period-correct dress look without pretending to be something it is not.
From the bench: we measured the lugs on this one at 18mm and cut the strap to fit, rather than assuming the 19mm the 1501 usually wears. Vintage cases vary, and measuring the actual watch is the only way to get a gap-free fit. The strap tapers to a 16mm buckle and uses regular spring bars for a secure hold.
Length was set at 75/115mm for the owner's 6.5-inch wrist. If you have a vintage Rolex Date that needs a strap no one makes anymore, this is our dark brown lizard strap, and you can also browse related tones in our brown leather straps.

FAQ
What lug width does the Rolex 1501 take? Most examples are 19mm, but vintage cases vary. This one measured 18mm, so we cut to 18mm. Measure your own lugs, or send the watch reference, and we build to the real number.
Can you make a lizard strap for a vintage Rolex 1501? Yes. We cut lizard straps to the exact lug width and wrist size, which is what a vintage Date needs since no factory strap is still made for it.
