Extra-Long Crocodile Strap for Hamilton Jazzmaster
The Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic ships on a strap sized for an average wrist, and there is no factory option once you pass that. This order needed 105/160mm, which is a long way beyond the 75/125mm most straps are cut to, and the owner asked for a light gray leather rather than the usual black or brown. Both were straightforward to do from scratch and impossible to do off a shelf.

Why these choices
105/160mm is a long strap by any measure. Our extra-long watch straps run to wrists of 12 inches, and a split like this one lands in the upper half of that range. The reason to grow both halves rather than just the tail is buckle position: leave the short side at a stock length and the buckle ends up sitting on the side of the wrist instead of underneath it, which is uncomfortable under a cuff and looks wrong from above.
Gray is a harder color to get right in crocodile than black is, because the scale pattern carries the tone unevenly and a cool gray can drift warm across a single hide. The order asked for light gray specifically, so cool gray was the closer match of the grays we cut. Crocodile softens with wear and picks up a hand-rubbed patina, which on a pale gray shows sooner than it would on a dark hide.
Quick-release bars suit a watch worn in rotation. The Jazzmaster Viewmatic is a dress-leaning automatic that many owners swap between straps by season, and a lever bar means that happens without a spring bar tool and without scratching the inside of the lug.
