Light brown ostrich leg watch strap for Orient Mako, curved-end, 75/115mm

Curved-End Strap for Orient Mako in Ostrich Leg

An order from Wisconsin asked for a curved-end strap for an Orient Mako, in this case the solar chronograph (ref. RN-TX0205S). The owner wanted light brown ostrich leg leather with the strap end cut on an arc, so it meets the case along the curve of the lugs instead of stopping in a straight line and leaving a gap.

Below are the specs from the order and the reasoning behind each one.

The build

Watch Orient Mako solar chronograph (ref. RN-TX0205S)
Strap style Curved-end
Leather Light brown ostrich leg
Strap length 75/115mm (2.95"/4.53")
Buckle width 18mm (0.71")
Buckle Deployant clasp, stainless steel
Spring bars Regular (tool-removal)
Stitching Side stitching, white
Padding Padded
Tip Square

18mm is the clasp-end width from the order. The lug end is cut to the watch and is not listed here.

Why these choices

The curved end is the point of this order. When a watch's lugs curve, a strap cut straight across stops short of the case and leaves a visible gap where the end meets the lugs. A curved-end strap has its end cut on an arc that follows that curve, so the leather sits flush against the case. It is not an integrated strap, which is shaped around one specific case design. It is a conventional strap that mounts on spring bars, with only the end shaped to match a curved lug line.

We ship curved spring bars in the size ordered, but our standing advice is to reuse the watch's original bars wherever they fit. "Regular" on this order refers to tool-removal bars as opposed to quick-release ones; it has nothing to do with whether the bars are straight or curved.

Ostrich leg comes from the scaled lower leg of the bird rather than the body, so its grain is a pattern of small scales, not the quill bumps people associate with body ostrich. The owner paired the light brown leather with white side stitching, which keeps the stitch line visible along the edge instead of letting it disappear into the leather. Padding raises the profile through the middle of the strap, and the tail finishes in a square tip.

The strap closes on a stainless steel deployant clasp. With a deployant, you set the strap to one hole once and then open and close the watch at the clasp, so the leather is not flexed through a buckle every time the watch comes off. That makes the length worth getting right the first time. This one is 75/115mm (2.95"/4.53"): 75mm on the clasp side and 115mm on the tail side. Both pieces are cut to the length you choose when you order, so the fit is set before the strap is made.

FAQ

Is a curved-end strap for an Orient Mako the same as an integrated strap?

No. An integrated strap is shaped to fit one specific case design. A curved-end strap is a standard strap whose end is cut on an arc to follow curved lugs, and it mounts on spring bars like any other strap.

Do I have to use the curved spring bars?

No. We include curved spring bars in the size you order, but if your watch's original spring bars are in good condition and fit, we recommend reusing them.

To order one for your own watch, start in the curved-end strap configurator, or browse ostrich leather watch straps and the full range of custom leather watch straps. Each strap is made to order; allow 2–3 weeks to delivery.
