Crocodile Strap for Longines Conquest Heritage
Share
The Longines Conquest Heritage is a re-issue of a mid-century dress watch, and it looks wrong on anything modern or sporty. This order specified a black crocodile strap for the Longines Conquest Heritage, reference L1.645.4.52.4, built at 85/135 mm with a padded lug end that tapers thin toward the tail.

Why these choices

Crocodile and alligator are industry synonyms for the same hide family, and the reason it has stayed the default dress leather for eighty years is that it does two things at once: the scale pattern gives a plain black strap depth, and the hide softens with wear so it takes a hand-rubbed patina instead of cracking. On a heritage re-issue that is the correct visual language — the watch is quoting the 1950s, and so is the strap.
The profile was specified precisely: padded to 3.5–4.0 mm where the strap meets the lugs, then tapering thin at the tail. On a case with short, close-set lugs like this one, the pad closes the gap under the springbar so the strap appears to grow out of the case rather than being threaded through it. Keeping the tail thin is the other half of that — a strap that is uniformly 4 mm thick will not tuck cleanly under a keeper and will lift a shirt cuff.
The taper runs from the lug width down to an 18 mm stainless steel buckle, and quick-release bars were fitted so the watch can go back on its original bracelet without tools. Black on steel with a silvered dial is the safe combination, and on a watch this size it is also the only one that disappears properly.

★★★★★
“It fits perfectly and is quite a bit cheaper than the replacement straps on the Longines website, which is out of stock for this item by the way.”

Questions we get about this one
Can you match the original crocodile strap for a Longines Conquest Heritage?
We build to your measurements rather than copying a catalog part, which usually gets closer than a generic replacement. Send us the lug width and the two strap lengths you want, and tell us whether you want the padded lug end — that shaping is what makes a strap look factory-fitted.
Is 85/135 mm a long strap?
It is a little above standard on the tail side, which suits a wrist around 7.5 in. If yours is larger, we build up to 12 in in the extra-long range; if it is smaller, we simply cut both sides shorter at no extra cost.
