Corner-Notched Strap for 1944 Omega Suveran 2400-5
Share
A 1944 Omega Suveran ref. 2400-5 comes from before strap sizes were standardized, and a straight off-the-shelf band rarely sits right on a case like this. This order from Pennsylvania came in with three exact case measurements, so we cut a corner-notched strap in Barenia to match the watch rather than a stock size.
The build
| Watch | Omega Suveran ref. 2400-5, 1944 |
|---|---|
| Leather | Barenia |
| Lug end | Corner-notched |
| A: full width at the case | 20 mm (0.79 in) |
| B: tongue width between the lugs | 18 mm (0.71 in) |
| C: notch depth | 4.5 mm (0.18 in) |
| Strap length | 75/125 mm (2.95/4.92 in) |
Why these choices
The notch. Our corner-notched pattern is set by three numbers. A is the full width of the strap end where it meets the case, B is the tongue that drops between the lugs, and C is how far that tongue steps in from the shoulder. On this Suveran the numbers are 20, 18 and 4.5 mm. The difference between A and B is only 2 mm, so each corner loses just 1 mm of width, but the 4.5 mm depth is generous. In practice that means a strap that reads as a full 20 mm band right up to the case while the tongue reaches well into the lug gap. A straight 18 mm strap would look narrow against the case; a straight 20 mm strap would not go in at all. That is the job a custom notched strap exists to do on vintage dress watches.
The measurements. Numbers this specific are the best start we can get. On a watch this age the case may have been polished over the decades, and small differences in tongue width or depth decide whether the strap seats flush. We recommend having a jeweler measure with calipers, and we recommend reusing the watch's original spring bars where they are still sound.
The leather. Barenia is a hot-stuffed leather with an equestrian origin, traditionally valued for being water-resistant. On an eighty-year-old dress watch, a plain, honest leather lets the dial carry the look. See the full range of Barenia leather watch straps, or every leather we cut in custom leather watch straps.

FAQ
Does a vintage Omega Suveran need a corner-notched strap?
Not every one does, and widths vary between references and cases. If the lug gap is narrower than the case at the point where the strap meets it, a corner-notched strap for the Omega Suveran will fill the opening the way a straight strap cannot. Compare the original strap end, or send us a clear photo, before ordering.
What do the A, B and C measurements mean?
A is the full width at the case, B is the width of the tongue between the lugs, and C is the depth of the notch. Half-millimeters are fine.
