Buttero Watch Strap for Omega De Ville 511.166
Share
A vintage Omega De Ville tapers to a buckle end most strap makers do not cut. This one closes down to 8mm, roughly half the width a modern catalog strap ends at, and the owner wanted to keep the original buckle rather than replace it. So the strap had to be graded down to meet hardware that already existed instead of the other way round.

Why these choices
An 8mm buckle end is the detail that decides whether this strap looks right. Taper that steep has to be graded evenly along the whole tail, because if the narrowing is rushed near the buckle the strap reads pinched and the fold stops sitting square. Cutting to a customer's own buckle also removes the guesswork: the hardware is already on the bench in the photographs supplied with the order, so the tail is sized to it rather than to a nominal figure.
Flat padding was the right call for a dress case from this era. A padded strap lifts the watch off the wrist and adds bulk under a shirt cuff, which fights everything a thin De Ville case is trying to do. Buttero is a Walpier tannery veg-tan from Tuscany, dense enough to hold a flat profile without a foam core and it patinas as it is worn. Creamy white side stitching lifts the brown without the contrast shouting.
Regular spring bars were kept rather than quick release. On a watch of this age the bars are part of the original fit, and a tool-removal bar sits lower in the lug recess than a lever bar does.

Two questions we get
Do you make a Buttero watch strap for an Omega De Ville?
Yes, and to the measurements you give us rather than the closest stock size. This build is 75/125mm in brown Buttero, tapered down to an 8mm buckle end, cut for a De Ville 511.166.
Can I send my own buckle?
Yes. Choose the own-buckle option and send a photograph with a measurement. We size the tail to the buckle you already have, which is usually the right move on a vintage watch where the original hardware is part of the look.
If your watch ends at a width the catalog does not carry, that is the ordinary case here rather than the exception. Start with the Buttero leather straps or the wider brown leather watch straps, or open the brown Buttero strap this one was built from. Made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks to delivery.
