White Epsom watch strap for a TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph, orange stitching

White Epsom Strap for a TAG Heuer Formula 1

This one started with a number that does not exist on a shelf. The customer measured the lug opening on his TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph at 18.5 mm (0.73 in) — half a millimeter clear of every stock size. An 18 mm strap leaves daylight on both sides of the case; a 19 mm strap will not go in at all. A white Epsom strap for the TAG Heuer Formula 1 in this configuration only works if the lug end is cut to the measurement rather than rounded to the nearest catalog width.

Why these choices

White Epsom watch strap for TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph, orange double-side stitching

Epsom is a stamped-grain calfskin, the same leather Hermès uses for its bags. The grain is pressed in rather than sanded off, which is why it stays light and resists the scuffing that shows quickly on a pale strap. That matters more than usual here: white leather on a sports watch is a maintenance question before it is a style question, and Epsom is the calfskin we would pick for it.

The orange thread is the customer's call and it is the right one. Double-side stitching runs a line down both edges of the strap, so the color reads along the full length of the band instead of appearing only at the lug and buckle ends. Against a white strap on an orange-dial watch, that gives the dial something to answer to. We used a padded build with a tapered tip so the strap has some standing height at the case and narrows toward the buckle.

On the half-millimeter: a strap cut at 18.5 mm is made, not selected. There is no stock in that width to pull from, so the lug end is cut to the figure the customer measured and the edges are finished to it. If you are ever between two widths on a watch, measure the gap between the lug faces with calipers and give us that number rather than rounding.

“…My email inquiry was answered within 10 minutes. He even invited me to send some pictures of my watch. We decided on orange stitching… Everything was done perfectly.”

Common questions

Can you make a white Epsom strap for the TAG Heuer Formula 1 in a non-standard lug width?
Yes. Our configurator covers lug widths from 8 mm to 30 mm, and half-millimeter figures like this 18.5 mm are cut to order. Send the measured number and we work to it.

How do I measure my lug width properly?
Measure the inside gap between the two lugs, not the width of the old strap and not the buckle. A worn strap can sit narrower than the opening it came from, and buckle width is a separate dimension entirely.
