Why these choices

Ostrich leg is worth separating from the round-skin ostrich most people picture. It comes from the leg rather than the body, so instead of the familiar quill bumps you get a natural scaled grain that runs along the length of the strap. It photographs as texture and wears as something closer to a fine reptile leather — which is why it suits a watch like this. The Max Bill's dial is about as unornamented as watch design gets, so the strap is the only place any character is going to come from.

Green was the owner's call and it works for the same reason: it reads as dark and neutral at a glance, then shows its color in daylight. The length is the part that solves an actual problem. Cutting both sides to measurement fixes it properly. A flat profile and a taper down to 16 mm keeps the whole thing slim under a shirt cuff.
