Extra-Long Crocodile Strap for Vintage Omega Seamaster
Share
Sourcing a leather strap for a vintage Omega Seamaster is one thing; finding one long enough for a larger wrist is another problem entirely. This order came from a customer in Tennessee with a specific complaint: every standard band he tried only reached the last two holes, leaving no slack to size down on a warm day. His watch is a 1954 Omega Seamaster powered by the caliber 344, old enough that no current factory strap fits it well, and it was already running quick-release spring bars. We built him a 90/145 mm extra-long strap in dark blue crocodile.

Why these choices
The length is the whole point of this build. When a strap only catches on its final two holes, there is no room left to tighten and no margin once the leather settles and stretches slightly with wear. Cutting it to 90/145 mm, roughly 3.5 and 5.7 inches on either side of the lugs, moves the usable holes toward the middle of the range, which is what you want on a wrist in the 8.5 to 12 inch band that most makers stop short of. We size extra-long straps for exactly this situation.
We kept the quick-release spring bars because the watch already wore them; there was no reason to make him change hardware just to change a strap. The 16 mm figure is the buckle-end width, not the lug width. We measure and cut those separately, so we never assume one from the other.
For the leather, dark blue crocodile is a quieter choice than the usual black or brown against a steel vintage case, and it reads as considered rather than loud. Crocodile and alligator come from the same hide family; this skin softens with wear and takes a hand-rubbed patina over the years. If you would rather have a classic finish, the same cut runs across our crocodile strap range and in other blue leathers.

FAQ
Can you make an extra-long crocodile strap for an Omega Seamaster?
Yes. This one was cut to 90/145 mm, which suits wrists from roughly 8.5 to 12 inches, longer than most off-the-shelf straps reach. Each strap is built to your measured length rather than to standard sizing, so the comfortable holes land where you need them.
Will a quick-release strap work on a vintage Seamaster?
It will, provided the lugs accept a standard spring bar. We can ship quick-release bars in your lug width, or fit regular tool-removal bars if you prefer to keep the watch original.
Made to order for a vintage Omega Seamaster, this strap is cut and finished in our workshop over a few days; allow two to three weeks for delivery. You can start your own build on the dark blue crocodile strap page.
