Curved-End Strap for H. Moser & Cie Pioneer

A watch with lugs that curve down toward the wrist does not sit flush on a strap cut with a straight end. There is a gap where the leather meets the case, and the strap has to bend twice to close it. This build is a curved-end strap for an H. Moser & Cie Pioneer, made in light brown ostrich leg with the end cut on an arc so it follows the lug curve instead of fighting it. The order came in from Pennsylvania with an unusual note attached, which is where the build decisions start.

Why these choices

A curved-end strap is not an integrated strap, and the difference matters here. An integrated strap is shaped into one specific case design and fits nothing else. A curved end is simply cut on an arc, which is the more forgiving shape: it closes the gap under a curved lug without being locked to a single reference. That flexibility is why this order worked at all. The note on it read that the strap was for "an H. Moser & Cie Pioneer or maybe my Vacheron Constantin Histories American 1921" — two dress watches, one strap, and a customer who had not finished deciding.

The leather is ostrich leg, not round-skin ostrich. They come from the same bird and look nothing alike. Round skin carries the raised quill bumps most people picture when they hear ostrich; the leg is scaled, with a natural grain that runs in fine bands down the length of the strap. In light brown it reads closer to a textured calf than to a novelty exotic, which is the right register for a plain dress dial. The buckle is the curved style in stainless steel — a buckle shape, unrelated to the curved end of the strap, though the two do sit well together over a downward lug sweep.

Quick-release bars went in at 20 mm so the strap comes off without a tool. Length went out at 75/125 mm, which puts the buckle in a comfortable place on a mid-size wrist without pushing into extra-long territory.
