Curved-End Racing Strap for the H. Moser Pioneer

The H. Moser & Cie Pioneer has lugs that curve down hard toward the wrist. A flat-ended strap bridges that curve instead of following it, which leaves a visible gap at the case and puts all the load on the spring bar. This order asked for a curved-end racing strap for the H. Moser Pioneer 3200-0903 — the end cut on an arc, perforated in the racing pattern, and finished to the owner's own deployment clasp.

Why these choices

A curved end is cut on an arc so it follows the underside of the lug rather than meeting it at a tangent. It is worth being precise about what this is not: it is not an integrated strap, which is shaped into one specific case and will not fit anything else. A curved end is for any watch with curved lugs. We ship curved spring bars in the width you order, but we still recommend using the watch's original bars — they are made for that case and they seat better.

Racing perforations were the second half of the brief. The holes run through the padded section and lighten a strap that would otherwise read as heavy on a 40mm dress-sport case. The customer chose matching thread rather than the usual racing contrast, which keeps the perforation pattern as the only texture on an otherwise black strap.

The clasp detail mattered more than the leather here. He supplied his own deployment clasp with a 2mm × 3mm pin and asked for a tight fit. A loose clasp pin lets the strap rock sideways in the fitting, which wears the hole into an oval within a season. Cutting the slot tight costs a minute at the bench and buys years.

Two questions we get about this build

Do I need a curved-end racing strap for the H. Moser Pioneer, or will a flat strap do? Look at the watch side-on with the bracelet off. If the underside of the lug sweeps down toward the wrist, a flat end will leave a wedge of air under the case. If the lug face is square to the band, a flat end is fine.

Which spring bars should I use? Yours, if you still have them. We send curved bars in the ordered width so you are covered either way, but the factory bars are matched to that case and are the safer fit.
