Black Stingray Strap for Zelos Skyraider
Share
Most straps will not run through a single-fold deployant clasp. The tail is too thick, and the keepers get in the way of the folding blade. The owner of this Zelos Skyraider 40 Tantalum in Ohio knew that going in and specified around it — a black stingray strap for the Zelos with no leather keepers at all and the tail thinned to clear the clasp.

Why these choices
The customer's instructions were specific and worth quoting: "Please build this strap with NO leather keepers, as I will be using a single-fold deployant clasp," and "Please skive (thin out) the tail end of the strap near the adjustment holes down to a maximum thickness of 2.0mm to 2.2mm so it can easily slide through a standard single-fold deployant clasp." That is not fussiness. Stingray is dense, and a full-thickness stingray tail simply will not pass through the blade of a folding clasp. Skiving it is the difference between the strap working and the strap sitting in a drawer.
Losing the keepers follows the same logic. A deployant holds the tail captive by design, so the keepers have no job — they just add two bumps of leather that fight the clasp. Building without them is cleaner and it is what the hardware actually wants.
Stingray on a tantalum case is an unusual pairing and a good one. Tantalum is a dark, slightly blue-grey metal with a muted sheen, and stingray's pearl scales throw light in points rather than a flat gloss. The powder blue minimal stitching is the only colour on the whole build, and it picks up the metal rather than the dial.

★★★★★
“It looks and feels excellent. I already have had other peoples interest in the strap along with the watch. Telling them it was stingray. I love the way the strap sparkles sometimes, depending on the light. Great strap and price!”

Questions we get
Can you build a black stingray strap for a Zelos Skyraider to fit my own deployant clasp? Yes. Tell us the clasp is a single-fold, ask for no keepers, and give us a target tail thickness. We can skive down to roughly 2.0-2.2mm, which clears most standard clasps.
What if I want to keep the tang buckle option open? Then keep the keepers. A strap built for a deployant is built for that clasp — it is a deliberate one-way choice, so decide before you order.
Odd hardware and odd measurements are the normal case here, not the exception. Start with the black stingray strap, browse the stingray range or our black leather straps. Every strap is made to order — allow 2-3 weeks to delivery.
